Exploring through climbing is a key part of our classes at The Little Gym! Children are given the opportunity to safely navigate the gym and build their senses. The more you allow your child to take risks and find their own path, the more confident they’ll become in higher learning. When we are overprotective, children never learn what they can and cannot do, which can lead to more danger later in life—actually making them more likely to suffer injury. So next time you see them doing something ‘dangerous’ yet carefully, let them take a risk!
- They are developing their proprioceptive sense: This is responsible for learning about spatial awareness, understanding force/weight, and body part awareness.
- They are building gross motor skills: These are responsible for everyday movements like walking, running, etc. The more they practice, the better their performance will be.
- They are developing their coordination: Opportunities to explore a variety of settings help them move in as many ways as possible.
- They are developing the vestibular system: Balance, stillness, concentration, alertness, and posture are determined by the vestibular system. Activities like spinning, jumping, going upside down, and rotating help mature this system.
- Their confidence will thrive: Allowing them to make mistakes is okay. Let them achieve before you prompt them, and don’t forget to praise them for their effort.
